How To Play Roulette
Roulette is a casino game where a player has to guess where a small white marble is going to land on the spinning wheel. Roulette seems like an easy game to win, but the house edge for this game is typically around 5% but can be as low as 2%.

This house edge is higher than other casino games like blackjack, baccarat, or craps which can make the odds of winning Roulette less than these other games. With these odds, a person needs to understand how to play Roulette.

How To Place Roulette Bets

When a player wants to make a bet, he or she just puts a chip on a number, set, or color. However, a variety of bets can be done at a Roulette table. Some of these are:

• Red or Black, Even or Odd, 1-18 or 19-36 are bets that pay even money.
• First, Second, or Third twelve (Dozen Bet) is a bet on numbers (1-12), (13-24), or (25-36) which pays two to one
• First, Second, or Third Column (Column Bet) also pays two to one
• Set of six numbers ( Line Bet) pays five to one
• Set of five numbers (Line Bet) pays six to one
• Set of four numbers (Square Bet or Corner Bet) pays eight to one
• Set of three numbers (Street Bet0 pays eleven to one
• Set of two numbers (Split Bet) pays seventeen to one
• One number (Straight Bet) pays 35 to one

A player can place one of these bets before the dealer says “no more bets.” However, many players typically do not place just one kind of bet for each spin of the wheel. Some players will even place multiple bets on the same spin.

For example, a player may place a line bet of 7-12 and a straight bet on #12. So, if the ball lands on twelve, the player would win both, but if it lands on #10, the player would lose the straight bet but win the line bet.

When the ball lands in a slot, the dealer will tell the players the number and the color. The dealer will then place a type of marker by the winning number, and he or she will calculate the winnings for each player. A player should not reach for any winnings until the dealer removes his or her marker.

Chips and Minimums

A casino typically offers players different colored chips, so when two players bet on the same number, the dealer knows who to pay. Sometimes a dealer will also ask players inside or outside when giving the player chips. An inside bet is placed on a particular number, and outside bets are on kinds of numbers.

A player should always say both, so he or she is not locked into a certain one. A player should not limit himself or herself to inside or outside because there is no advantage in doing so.

An individual should remember that chips in other games denote the amount of the chip, but in Roulette, the same color chip can be $1, $5, $10, or any other denomination. The player must tell the denomination when he or she buys in.

The color chips are typically only used in land based casinos, but table minimums are required for online and land-based casinos. The minimum bet work in different ways for inside and outside bets.

All outside bets have to meet the table minimum, but for inside bets, a player can make smaller bets as long as they total the table minimum.

The House Edge for Roulette

It is not necessary to know how to calculate a house edge, but it still can be interesting information to have. The American Roulette game contains 38 spaces which are numbered 1-36, 0, and 00. When a player makes a one number bet, he or she has 37 ways to lose and only one way to win.

The casino does not pay the player 37 to 1, but they only pay 35 to 1. The difference between these two odds is 5.26%. If a person were to take the time to calculate this for each bet, he or she would see that it always comes out the same.

The European Roulette game has a lower house edge because it does not have a 00 which means there are only 37 spaces. The house edge on this type of Roulette table is 2.63%, so a player has better odds with a European wheel.

Due to the fact the house edge is calculated based on the number of available spaces, the house edge is the same whether it is played online or in a land-based casino. The significant difference between online Roulette and land based Roulette is the bonuses that offer free money for the online casinos.

With the above information, a player is ready to give Roulette a try. A player can try Roulette online for free first and then progress to playing for money.
